Version History

Plain-language updates for field operators. Only changes visible in the PigStick screen are listed, and releases published on the same day are combined into one entry.

Versions 2.3.12-2.3.14 August 28, 2026 Current
Added
  • Passage Chime: an optional sound that plays in the browser the moment a passage recording starts. Turn it on with Settings > Passage Chime or press the C key. While the chime is on, a small green bell appears beside the DEVICE indicator in the menu bar. The chime plays at a fixed volume even when the geophone stream is muted or turned down, and the choice is remembered per browser.
Fixed
  • The Version History link in the About window and the API Reference link in the User Guide opened a Not Found page when viewed from the device. Both pages now open correctly.
  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer react while Ctrl, Cmd, or Alt is held, so copying text with Ctrl+C or selecting all with Ctrl+A does not change any settings.
Changed
  • Version 2.3.14 aligns the firmware and app version numbers for this release and contains no functional changes.
Versions 2.3.8-2.3.11 August 27, 2026
Added
  • The About window (Help menu) now links to this Version History page, beneath the version numbers. The User Guide links here as well, and adds a Developer API section that links to the PigStick API Reference.
Improved
  • Numbers on screen now follow your selected language's format. For example, French and German readers see 3,14 instead of 3.14. Reports, exports, and files keep the standard format so they stay consistent when shared.
  • The selected language now covers the whole screen: the update screen, notifications, button hints, progress windows, and job windows all appear in your language, and the last few English labels now translate, including the System card title and the Local and UTC time display choices.
  • Switching language now updates the screen immediately, including graphs and buttons that previously kept the old language until a reload.
Fixed
  • Passage times are no longer wrong when the PigStick starts recording before the GPS finds its first fix. Clock corrections now also wait until a capture finishes, so a recording in progress is never disturbed.
  • Exporting a job or viewing a recorded passage while the recorder was full could make the PigStick discard a new passage and disarm itself with a misleading storage-full message. Recording now continues normally during exports and passage viewing.
  • In the rare case where cleanup truly cannot proceed during an export, the message now says an export is blocking cleanup instead of blaming full storage.
  • Some labels, including the WiFi mode diagram, stayed in English even though a translation existed. They now display in the selected language.
  • The audio button no longer shows STOP after a WiFi scan briefly pauses the audio stream.
Versions 2.3.6-2.3.7 August 26, 2026
Added
  • The screen is now also available in French. Choose it under Settings > Language. Like the other languages, it applies to this browser only, and reports and exports stay in English.
  • The Regulatory Information window (Help menu) now shows the device's battery information and an expandable Legal Notices section with the full FCC and Canadian regulatory statements.
Improved
  • Every window can now be closed with the Esc key, including Job Trail, WiFi Mode, Startup Behavior, and New Job. A window with unsaved typed entries stays open so nothing is lost to a stray keypress.
  • The Regulatory Information window lists certifications as text only, and the Canada certification number is corrected.
Versions 2.3.4-2.3.5 August 25, 2026
Added
  • The Sensitivity selector now warns when you pick Max. Max is intended for bench work, not field use: it makes the recorder trigger on ambient noise. A unit left on Max is automatically lowered to High at every power-up.
  • The PigStick now detects when it is re-triggering the moment it re-arms, a sign the sensitivity is too high or the threshold too low. A TRIGGERING CONTINUOUSLY warning appears in the menu bar, and a stronger alert is shown if new recordings begin replacing older ones in the job.
Improved
  • Trigger settings and sensitivity can now be changed while the recorder is armed, even during a capture. A change made mid-capture is saved and takes effect the moment the capture finishes, instead of being rejected.
  • With two viewers connected, changing the sensitivity on one screen now updates the other screen immediately.
  • The trademark symbol now also appears on the PigStick name in the page header.
Version 2.3.3 August 24, 2026
Improved
  • Passages save noticeably faster after each capture, and recordings open faster when you tap them in the list.
  • Grab Window as Passage now reliably includes the audio that belongs to the grabbed window. If the audio feed is ever unavailable, the passage honestly reports that it has no audio instead of storing the wrong sound.
  • The live waveforms no longer stutter or jump to resync while a recording is being opened.
  • The PigStick name now shows the trademark symbol in the app and guides.
Versions 2.2.120-2.3.0 August 23, 2026
Added
  • The Settings > WiFi Mode screen was redesigned. The three modes are now compact choices with one detail panel below: tap a mode to read what it does, see who connects to what, and see exactly how to open the PigStick app in that mode (addresses, and the hotspot name and password where they apply). Reading around changes nothing. The mode that is running shows a green Current tag, and the button becomes Apply when you pick a different mode; nothing changes until you press it.
  • Router with Battery Saver is now called Router only and carries a Best battery life tag.
  • The About dialog now shows the device serial number.
Improved
  • The Settings > WiFi Networks dialog now shows only network information. Saved networks appear as labeled cards (Network, Status, Priority) with clear move buttons and a Forget button. Mode and connection help live in the WiFi Mode screen.
  • Restore Hints & Tips moved from Settings to the Help menu, below Regulatory Information.
  • The tilt warning now reads DEVICE NOT UPRIGHT.
Fixed
  • On phones, the DEVICE IS NOT UPRIGHT warning no longer breaks the menu bar layout. It now appears on its own line beneath the status lights, and the DEVICE and GPS indicators always stay visible.
Versions 2.2.114-2.2.119 August 22, 2026
Added
  • A new Settings > WiFi Mode screen chooses how the PigStick connects: Hotspot only, Hotspot + Router, or Router with Battery Saver, each with a picture of who connects to what. Router with Battery Saver turns the hotspot off while the router connection is healthy to extend battery life, and the hotspot comes back automatically if the router is lost.
  • The WiFi dialog is now Settings > WiFi Networks and shows the current mode with a Change link. The Starlink / Local Network Mode checkbox moved into the new mode screen.
  • The Job Trail map can now be moved and zoomed: drag to move, scroll or pinch to zoom, and double click to zoom in. The Satellite background shows detail down to individual facilities, and the picture sharpens a moment after you stop moving. A new Recenter button returns to the view of the whole trail, and the map never lets you wander far enough to lose the trail off screen.
  • Saved WiFi networks can now be reordered with the arrow buttons in the WiFi dialog. The PigStick tries networks from the top of the list down, so put the network at your site first for the quickest connection.
  • A battery temperature warning message now appears when the device runs very hot. It shows the board temperature and the recommended battery operating range, and repeats only if the device cools down and overheats again.
Improved
  • An open PigStick page now keeps reconnecting on its own after any outage, no matter how long. Router reboots, laptop sleep, or a PigStick restart no longer require pressing Reconnect or refreshing the page, and returning to the tab or regaining network triggers an immediate reconnect attempt.
  • The title bar thermometer now appears only when Advanced Mode is on, keeping the everyday view uncluttered. If the device runs very hot the thermometer appears automatically for everyone and stays visible until the device cools back down.
Versions 2.2.112-2.2.113 August 21, 2026
Added
  • The title bar now shows the device temperature next to the battery indicator. A small thermometer changes color as the device warms: pale blue below freezing, light blue in the normal range, amber when warm, and red when hot. Hover over it to see the reading in Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Improved
  • The title bar temperature now appears right away when the page opens instead of waiting for the first scheduled reading.
Version 2.2.111 August 20, 2026
Improved
  • Switching between jobs is much faster, especially on jobs that already hold many recorded passages. The passage list appears once instead of loading twice.
Version 2.2.109 August 16, 2026
Improved
  • The document engine behind PDF report exports was updated to its latest release, which includes current security fixes. Exported reports look and work the same as before.
Versions 2.2.106-2.2.108 August 14, 2026
Added
  • Help → Regulatory Information shows the radio certification identifiers for the PigStick's built-in radio module, including the Japanese Giteki mark and certification number, the FCC ID, and other regional approvals. In regions that accept electronic labeling, this screen can serve as the device's regulatory label.
  • Job exports and merged exports now include the report's run summary (passage sequence, time gaps, distances, and speeds) in machine-readable form inside the export package, so the numbers can be used in spreadsheets or re-rendered in other languages.
Improved
  • Stopping the geophone stream while in Spectrum view now fades the display out smoothly, the same way the waveform does, instead of freezing on the last image.
  • A PigStick repairs inconsistent recording lists during startup without removing passages. If usable space is actually low, the serial-number Auto job stays available, but its temporary passages may be cleared first.
  • The screen warns once after current automatic cleanup without replaying an older warning, and copied debug information gives support the cleanup details.
  • The language list now shows each language in its own language and in your current one (for example "Deutsch · German"), so the right entry is recognizable no matter which language is active.
  • The WiFi status panel and WiFi dialog are now fully translated. The System Log stays in English by design, as do network names and technical error details.
Versions 2.2.101-2.2.105 August 13, 2026
Added
  • The PigStick screen is now available in eight languages: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and German. Choose yours in Settings → Language; the choice applies to this browser only and never changes the device. Reports and exports stay in English. Spotted a translation that reads wrong? Send it through Help → Report Bug.
  • Bug or feature? Report a bug, a translation error, or a feature idea straight from the screen: Help → Report Bug or the Bug or feature? footer link. Reports go directly to the PigStick support team from this computer’s internet connection; the PigStick itself does not need internet. Optional attachments (debug snapshot, active job details) are always shown as checkboxes before sending.
Improved
  • Switching languages now updates every part of the screen immediately, including the passage list, storage meter, and section headers. Long translated labels (notably German) no longer overflow their buttons.
Fixed
  • The live magnetic waveform no longer stutters after stopping the audio stream, and no longer hitches for a moment when audio starts or stops. Scrolling stays smooth through the whole audio start/stop cycle.
Version 2.2.100 August 12, 2026
Added
  • Map and Satellite background styles on the trail map, with buttons to switch. The choice is remembered per browser and also applies to PDF reports. Trail and point colors adjusted for visibility on each background.
  • Merge Leapfrog Jobs shows a short introduction before the file picker (with a “Never show this again” option; restore it under Settings → Restore Hints & Tips), lists the output filenames in the merge preview, and can open the PDF report automatically when the merge completes.
  • Export Package shows live download progress while recording data transfers from the PigStick.
Changed
  • Trail Plot is now Job Trail (View menu), with larger text in the window.
  • Import / Merge Packages is now Merge Leapfrog Jobs.
  • Report waveform pages follow the passage list’s sort order, newest first by default.
Fixed
  • PDF reports no longer produce blank or incorrectly drawn waveform pages for some passages.
  • Waveform images in PDF reports and PNG exports are sharper.
  • Passage-time cursors are always included in reports, including when a passage was reviewed before its cursor was placed.
Versions 2.2.97-2.2.99 August 11, 2026
Added
  • New View menu with Trail Plot: draws the active job’s recording positions on-screen as a numbered, connected trail with a distance scale and north arrow. A satellite background appears automatically when the browser has internet access; without internet the plot works on a plain background. Passages without a GPS fix are listed below the plot.
  • Import / Merge Packages in the Job menu combines exported packages from two or more PigSticks into one time-ordered report, useful when leapfrogging trackers along a line. A preview diagram shows exactly what will happen before the merge runs, and every passage is kept; nothing is removed as a duplicate.
  • PDF reports now include a Run Overview page: a map-style trail of recording positions, a passage table with time between sites and estimated pig speed, and a speed chart. A final page records device and export details for each PigStick in the report.
Improved
  • Report pages are ordered by passage time, and a passage that cannot be drawn no longer stops the rest of the report.
  • Exported packages name recording files with the device serial so packages from different PigSticks merge cleanly.
Fixed
  • PDF reports and package exports no longer fail with a “Failed to load” message when generating the Run Overview trail map.
Version 2.2.96 July 30, 2026
Changed
  • Grab Window as Passage saves only the history visible at click time, does not record another ten seconds, and opens the new passage when saving finishes.
Versions 2.2.93-2.2.95 July 26, 2026
Improved
  • The User Guide now gives step-by-step guidance for reading and reviewing the Geophone Spectrum view, and explains Recording Space and when to export or remove jobs.
  • Reviewing a recorded passage now uses much less of the tablet or laptop's processing power, so playback stays smooth and the browser stays responsive on slower devices.
Changed
  • While a passage is open, the hint above the passage list now reads "Click passage to return to live view" instead of going blank.
Versions 2.2.83-2.2.92 July 24, 2026
Improved
  • The live geophone waveform no longer shimmers while it scrolls; the trace now pans smoothly. The magnetic waveform and its envelope get the same steadier scrolling, and the Spectrum waterfall scrolls smoothly with steady brightness.
  • Waveforms now animate at the screen's full refresh rate on high-refresh displays, with fades and zoom transitions keeping their usual speed.
  • Live waveform drawing uses far less processing, easing browser load and battery drain on field laptops and tablets.
  • Recorded-passage audio now renders with the same steady, shimmer-free scrolling as the live view during playback.
Changed
  • The Waveform/Spectrum chooser is now labeled "Mode" and sits next to the START/STOP button, matching the Mag Stream toolbar.
  • Spectrum frequency labels now include Hz units, the horizontal frequency gridlines were removed for a cleaner display, and the Spectrum view shows the same one-second tick marks as the Waveform view for a time reference.
  • The Spectrum view's intensity legend now reads "weak" to "strong" (was "quiet" to "strong").
  • The Mag Stream and Geophone Stream card titles are now vertically centered above their toolbars.
Versions 2.2.76-2.2.81 July 23, 2026
Improved
  • The live geophone display can now switch between Waveform and a 0 to 1 kHz color Spectrum view for recognizing changes in signal texture. Speed estimation is automatically unavailable in Spectrum view because its threshold method requires the waveform.
  • Passages containing geophone audio can use the same Spectrum view during review and synchronized playback without consuming additional passage storage. Passages without recorded audio remain in Waveform view.
  • Live geophone sound now recovers more cleanly after a brief network or browser delay instead of continuing with an old sound backlog, and the live geophone and magnetic traces stay aligned with the sound being heard.
  • Waveform animation is steadier and uses less browser processing on high-refresh-rate screens.
Version 2.2.72 July 22, 2026
Fixed
  • Opening or refreshing the PigStick screen in another browser or on another device no longer interrupts the live geophone audio and magnetic traces of viewers already connected.
  • Live geophone audio now reconnects automatically after an unexpected connection loss. Pressing STOP still keeps audio stopped until START is pressed again.
Version 2.2.71 July 21, 2026
Improved
  • Copied debug reports now include better live-connection details for troubleshooting intermittent stream disconnects.
Version 2.2.70 July 20, 2026
Fixed
  • The Update available notice now appears only when an update has been assigned to this PigStick.
  • Live geophone and magnetic traces now stay connected when a passage finishes saving, is deleted, or is opened for the first time.
Versions 2.2.56-2.2.58 July 16, 2026
Improved
  • Startup now chooses an available saved local network before opening the PigStick WiFi, reducing interruptions during the first connection, and saved local networks are tried before the factory fallback when Starlink / Local Network Mode connects automatically.
  • GPS movement now requires sustained walking speed, reducing false movement reports while the device is stationary. The GPS Motion status identifies whether movement came from the accelerometer or sustained GPS speed.
Versions 2.2.54-2.2.55 July 15, 2026
Improved
  • The User Guide is now organized around field tasks, with clearer setup, monitoring, passage review, export, update, and troubleshooting steps, and includes a simplified Version History listing only controls, workflows, and fixes that operators can see or use.
  • Live magnetic and geophone traces now move smoothly through normal WiFi timing changes, and the live displays recover automatically after a short interruption, sleeping phone, or backgrounded browser tab. Live-stream troubleshooting explains the small smooth-display delay.
  • Support information now gives a clearer picture of live-stream health when Copy Debug Info is used.
Versions 2.2.45-2.2.47 July 14, 2026
Fixed
  • Live streams remain dependable when two operators are viewing or when one browser becomes slow.
  • Starting and stopping a stream repeatedly no longer leaves the magnetic display frozen.
  • Completing a passage no longer interrupts the live magnetic connection.
  • ARM and DISARM requests made during a capture now take effect safely when the current recording finishes.
  • Manual passages no longer reuse old audio, and the map button appears only when a location is available.
  • A full device continues to show its saved passage list correctly.
Versions 2.2.39-2.2.44 July 13-14, 2026
Improved
  • Grab Window as Passage now stores the result on the PigStick, includes it in the active job, and makes it visible to other viewers.
  • The screen explains when a manual grab can include only audio collected after the button was pressed.
  • System, GPS, and WiFi cards use shorter, clearer status wording.
  • The live ELF view and new saved passages are more consistent, while older passages remain viewable.
  • Location details remain honest while the GPS is still acquiring.
Versions 2.2.33-2.2.38 July 12-13, 2026
Improved
  • The ELF Trigger Threshold control and its chart guides now use matching names, colors, and alignment.
  • The threshold label appears while it is useful and stays out of the way during normal monitoring.
  • GPS status more clearly distinguishes an acquired position from a receiver that is still searching.
Versions 2.2.26-2.2.32 July 10-12, 2026
Improved
  • Update notices appear without interrupting active monitoring and clearly warn before the PigStick restarts.
  • The browser reconnects more quickly after an update finishes.
  • The DEVICE IS NOT UPRIGHT warning responds more promptly when the unit is moved.
  • Advanced GPS status provides clearer location-acquisition and resting-state information for support.
Versions 2.2.20-2.2.24 July 9-10, 2026
Changed
  • The Geophone Stream now has a simple Amp control for live monitoring and recordings, plus a separate browser Volume control.
  • Amp changes sound smoother and are shared across connected viewers.
  • Capture filters are limited to authorized advanced use because they also affect saved recordings.
  • GPS times are shown with finer precision in passage details.
Versions 2.2.13-2.2.17 July 7-8, 2026
Improved
  • Live geophone listening is more reliable on uneven WiFi connections.
  • Settings can be applied while live streams are stopped, and the log confirms when a device setting is accepted.
  • Speed marks line up more clearly with the beginning of a detected sound.
  • Strong, ringing signals are handled more consistently by the speed display.
Versions 2.2.6-2.2.12 July 7, 2026
Improved
  • Geophone Amp gives visible feedback on the true signal level and supports faint signals without tying recording level to listening volume.
  • High-pass and low-pass choices were added for authorized capture setup.
  • Speed threshold guides now match the waveform operators see.
  • Detection marks remain visible and correctly positioned during long monitoring sessions.
Versions 2.2.1-2.2.5 July 6-7, 2026
Fixed
  • Live waveforms display normally after the platform update.
  • An extra viewer is turned away cleanly when the live-view limit has been reached.
  • Saving a local WiFi network connects immediately and reports a wrong password clearly.
  • The PigStick reconnects more reliably when a router changes channels or restarts.
  • Software updates give clearer progress and recovery messages.
Versions 2.0.41-2.1.0 July 5-6, 2026
